Some moments mean more than others. For us at Sjöö Sandström, this is one of those moments. The release of our new chronograph marks the beginning of a new chapter in our history, a bold step into the future, while staying true to who we are.
We have spent years developing this watch. Every detail has been shaped with purpose, led by our values of Scandinavian design and fine craftsmanship. And now it’s here. A completely new chronograph. A timepiece unlike anything we’ve done before.
The new Royal Steel Chronograph shares its name with one of our past models, but that’s where the similarities end. We started with a blank page when creating this watch, new case, new dial, new link bracelet, new movement - new everything.
Crafted from stainless steel, the 40mm case is designed with proportions that offer a balanced and comfortable fit. The dial features two sub-dials: one showing the running seconds, the other serving as the minute counter for the chronograph. The use of Arabic numerals adds both character and clarity to the dial, without drawing too much attention. The chronograph hand has a red tip, a detail mirrored on the start/stop pusher. The watch has sapphire glass on both front and back, allowing a clear view of the SSG17 movement, finished with care and precision.
The inner bezel features a tachymeter scale, a tool made to calculate speed over a known distance. Once used in motorsport and by police to track how fast a car was going, it’s still just as relevant today.
Maybe you’ve used one during a track day, the principle hasn’t changed. And while the tachymeter relies on the chronograph to do its job, measuring speed over distance. The chronograph itself does plenty more: timing a walk, checking the pasta, or simply offering the feel and satisfaction of a mechanical chronograph.
The bracelet is new as well. It’s a 7-piece design, where the five smaller inner links are polished and the two larger outer links are satin-brushed. Light catches the bracelet in subtle ways, creating contrast without being loud. The tapering from 20mm to 18mm, along with the butterfly clasp, gives it comfort and style in equal measure. For those who prefer a sportier look, the watch also comes with a custom rubber strap. It’s familiar from our Royal Steel Worldtimer, with the signature hourglass texture, but now freshly cast for the new chronograph.

We often talk about DNA in watchmaking, the invisible thread that ties each model together. This chronograph continues that line. It remains true to Sjöö Sandström, while also taking us in a new direction. Exactly as we intended.
Time moves forward. So do we.
